There are some places in this world that go far beyond any normal definition of “haunted.” These places are so evil, so diabolical, that they become gateways to Hell itself. The Fuller Farm is one such place.

It is said that old man Fuller conducted unspeakable acts, blood rituals and human sacrifices, all in an attempt to gain the ultimate knowledge, the ultimate power. And then, he was killed–horribly murdered on his own lands, leaving the house to stand as a vacant monument to his wickedness. But once a door is opened, it can never really be closed.

Now, the stars are right. The gateway is ready to once more unleash unspeakable horror upon the town of Harmony, Indiana. And this will be one Halloween that they will never forget!

Happy Halloween with Zompacolypse 2012 Halloween Hop

This 2012 Halloween Zompacolypse was created by the bloggers at Paranormal Wastelands

This Halloween hope you have a great time. It's the funnest time of the year along with maybe Christmas. Whether you are definitely going to be watching scary movies on television, eating candy, and or attending Halloween parties hope you enjoy. This Halloween giving away some great stuff to read.  That means some books.

Up For Grabs
Prize Pack 1

"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. My name is April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids have overrun my world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to the next Vegas sunrise..."

In a post-apocalyptic world, a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated vampires. April is a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after the outbreak. She has become a ferocious vampire killer and after her family is abducted, she goes searching for them. What she finds is a new breed of vampire, unlike any she has seen before. Unsure of whom she can trust, she discovers that her view of the world is not as black and white as she once thought, and she's willing to bend the rules to rescue her family. But in trying to save them, she may only succeed in bringing her fragile world crashing down around her

Prize Pack 2

Not once in her life did farm girl Renee Crocker, imagine she would encounter a world found only in the minds of myth-seeking men. Although the things they sought were not always unheard of in the 1930’s in other parts of the world, life was just too harsh in the small Texas community, to pay mind to anything other than raising a healthy crop to ensure the survival of one’s family. But late one evening during supper, a stranger comes knocking on the door of the Crocker family farm house and is invited inside.

It doesn’t take long for Renee to discover a great number of things that people in her neck of the woods couldn’t even contemplate. The dark of night takes on a whole new meaning, and the once vulnerable young country woman finds herself struggling to survive in a world that demands she live forever in darkness.

Renee thought she had gone through the worse nightmare that any being could possibly dream up; little did she know that her adventure had just begun. Her intentions were to go back to Cuba and fulfill a promise made to the two that helped her escape the unbelievable hell that had become her life from the days of loving care back on the farm.

What she finds changes her destiny and places her path on one that was only found in the mind and tales of the ancient profits. Of course, the question remains, will she be able to fulfill the needs that have taken hold of what little heart she had left? Can the faith of a country girl with the help of those who would follow her into hell itself be enough, or will they find themselves in a situation that they cannot get out of?

-1 e-copy of Shifted Perspective by J. Bridger
"Caleb Byrne is a bright high school senior who has enough to deal with between college choices, taking care of his single dad, and dealing with his headstrong girlfriend Joanna and an eccentric set of cousins in California. He was managing to get by until the day he woke up a Cocker Spaniel. Even if it only happens monthly and is more embarrassing than painful, the so-called ability is something that he's anxious to be rid of.

He didn't realize his transformations would drag him into a hidden society of canine and lupine shape shifters as well as a family legacy he hates. To make matters worse, after moving to Los Angeles to learn more about his heritage from his Aunt Moira and his cousin Kalista, Caleb now struggles through life-and-death matters. He keeps angering the werewolves in charge of the shifter world, especially Kalista's boyfriend Peter, the Southern California alpha's son, who also happens to be grade-A sociopath. Worse, Caleb's floundering to keep his secret from Joanna.

While his family offers him some support, they may not be enough as Caleb realizes that the rules in shifter society---number one is supposed to be don't kill humans---are not so ironclad. Some werewolf out there is leaving a blood-soaked trail across the Midwest and it might just be with the alpha's blessing..."

A huge thank you to J. Bridger for providing Shifted Perspective at the last moment.

J. Bridger has had an eclectic life. She’s worked in the psychiatric ward in a hospital in La Paz, Bolivia, been a veterinary intern giving all sorts of better-left-to-the-imagination exams to dogs and cats, and had her own spate in creating and running a television ad campaign. Currently, in her day job, she is getting her certification as a medical Spanish interpreter in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina.
By night, she’s a fledgling author, who has just penned her debut novel, Shifted Perspective; she is currently working on its sequel, the next installment of The Tails of Change Series. J.’s always loved things that go bump (or that howl) in the night and devoured Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker starting in middle school. Her favorite shows are no less preternatural and include Big Wolf on CampusBuffy the Vampire Slayer, and Teen Wolf. While she’s been writing fiction for eight years and been published in several academic journals for her psychological research, this is her first venture into published original fiction.
J. Bridger lives in Raleigh with two Yorkies, a beagle, and a Schnauzer-Yorkie mix (as well as far too many dust bunnies).

There will be two winners for the giveaways.
The Grand Prize winner gets first pick and the 2nd place winner the other prize pack.
Rest assured all these are very interesting and fantastic books. So whatever you happen to get won't disappoint.

Happy Halloween!

{Guest Post} On "World Building" in Dianne Lynn Gardner 's Deception Peak Online Book Tour!

 By: Dianne Lynn Gardner

Where did the Realm come from?

It’s funny. Someone once asked me “Why is the portal into the Realm a computer?” The answer is that I’m only writing what I know. *smiles

When I write (on the computer) I enter my world. So though this story-portal is make-believe, there’s a little bit of truth to it.

Remember the Disney cartoon where you see a hand drawing Mickey Mouse, and then the little guy comes to life?

Same concept.

I write on the computer—voila-- the world comes to life on my computer.

So what exactly do we mean by world building?

Let’s look at the most famous world builder of our time. J.R.R Tolkien. The man was a philologist. He built his world first by inventing languages. After that he created legends that told the story of the people who spoke those languages. His settings were so unique and detailed that when he finally came around to telling the tale of the One Ring, everything was in place for it. He pulled from the history he had written.

He was a master at world building.

Why did he do it?

Something I find valuable in the life of both Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, whose Narnia is an inspiring world as well, was that they lived during a horrific era in a country feeling the effects of World War I. They both served in the trenches during the war, and were evidently devastated by what they experienced. There had to be hope for mankind, because the dark world of war was at their door.

They each had their worlds they could slip into.

And not just for themselves, but for the survivors of that dismal era. Their worlds swept through ours like a light in the forest. People begged for more.

Why…you ask?

I love Lewis’ take on the answer to that. He said, “"If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world."
— C.S. Lewis

Maybe he wasn’t talking about a fantasy world when he said that. I’m certain his quote had more of a spiritual connotation to it. But the desire for a better life, a purer place to live, and a happier outcome than many of us experience has always been in the heart of man.

-Hence, the need for world building.

With that established, I wonder…what would your world look like?

October Comment Contest is here!

The winner of the last Comment Contest happened to be Sherry.
She and I have already talked and she has already received her copy of Enchanted by Rachel Wells.

This month have an interesting title up for grabs.

Memory's Wake by Selina Fenech

In a culture of cravats and corsets, a troubled sixteen-year-old stands out in her t-shirt and torn jeans. She takes the name “Memory” because hers are stolen, and she’ll do anything to get them back. Lost in a world not her own, where magic and monstrous fairies are real, Memory has enough to handle just trying to stay alive.

Chased by wizard hunters, hunted by a dragon, stalked by a strange, handsome savage, despised by the fae and wanted by the king himself – everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it’s not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will change everything.

Memory will fight to get back to a family and home she can’t remember but desperately desires, even at the cost of new friendships and romances. On the run with no name and no memories, she thinks she has nothing left to lose. She couldn’t be more mistaken.

The latest Harmony, Indiana novel following 2011’s Cinema of Shadows arrives just in time for Halloween, exploring the places in this world that go far beyond any normal definition of “haunted.” These places are so evil, so diabolical, that they become gateways to Hell itself. The Fuller Farm is one such place.

It is said that old man Fuller conducted unspeakable acts, blood rituals and human sacrifices, all in an attempt to gain the ultimate knowledge, the ultimate power. Now, the stars are right. The gateway is ready to once more unleash unspeakable horror upon the town of Harmony, Indiana. And this will be one Halloween that they will never forget!

The softcover and eBook versions will be released following the launch event for the novel at That Book Place in Madison, Indiana on October 27th.

Spook House is now available for pre-order in a beautiful hardcover edition that is strictly limited to 75 copies.  The limited hardcover edition will be signed and numbered by Michael West and includes a bonus illustration from Matthew Perry not included in other editions.
