Review of The Adventures of Tilda Pinkerton by Angela Shelton and Giveaway {Online Book Tour}

Somewhere out in the Sombrero Galaxy, Tilda Pinkerton–mystical maker of mysterious, magnificent, magical hats–is being hunted by the Keeper of Darkness.
Yet Tilda simply does not recall, at all, after taking a tremendous fall.
No one on Ooleeoo, where Tilda crash-landed, knows she is from another planet. Only Star Jumper Randy can tell her—but he’s light years away, frantically searching for his missing love, desperate that without her, the entire galaxy soon may be lost.
Even in the middle of cosmic danger, Tilda loves to create hats, for which she has a rare and uncanny knack. All who receive them sparkle, in fact—and spark their innermost talent. With a Tilda hat, people can suddenly do whatever they dream of, causing brilliant ideas to grow madly.
With Gladys the toad, who thinks she’s a cat, and Frank the fish, who lives in her hat, Tilda must discover who she is and what her enemy wants from her so badly.

But the Mayor of Moodle has other plans, including a ban on all wearing of hats, everywhere on Ooleeoo. His dark and forbidding actions seem to coincide with something unworldly, threatening all with a nameless dread and slowly blacking out the sky. With Ooleeoo itself turning upside down, how can anyone survive?
In this first in a series of Tilda Pinkerton adventures, Tilda must fight the battle of her life and risk all—even the galaxy and stars—by revealing her most electrifying secret.
Written for children but adults enjoy it too!

Guest Post-Movies and Books that Inspire by Juli D. Revezzo

Movies and books that inspire

As writers, we take inspiration from everywhere. Be it an article we read in the paper or a sentence we overhead in a restaurant. Many take inspiration from books, from the classics and non-fiction tomes. Some of us squirrel little bits of inspiration away from movies we’ve loved.

I’ve seen a lot of movies in my life, from the old classics of the golden age of Hollywood to this year’s offerings. While it’s true some can be considered forgettable, some of them are very good. My list of ultimate favorites is long, but only a few inspire each individual book I’m working on at one time or another. It’s incredibly hard to choose just a few but Cassandra encouraged me to pare it down. ;) So let’s see…Herm…okay. For my new supernatural horror novel, The Artist’s Inheritance, a few gems come to mind.

For books, I’d say the influence of Anne Rice’s novel The Witching Hour comes first to mind.

Then for movies, the Dunwhich Horror’s a good one (though I think I prefer H.P. Lovecraft’s original story to the movie)

The Exorcist of course jumps to the top of the list, in some respects (can’t beat it for creep-factor, can you?).

Would you believe the god-awful Eddie Murphy movie Disney’s Haunted House?
And Ghostbusters? *nods* It’s true!

Oh, and who can forget this scene from Legend:

Yes, that one too.

And for my story House of Cards?
Hands down Clive Barker’s Nightbreed, as well as Johnny Depp’s performance in The Libertine.

Just call me a fangirl, I won’t mind! Have you seen any of these movies? What did you think of them?

Want to know a little more about my books? Okay:

The Artist's Inheritance
Trouble only a witch can solve...

Settling into a new home, Caitlin notices changes coming over her husband. When nightmares deepen and ghosts begin lurking—Caitlin knows something’s not right, and not just her newfound precognitive abilities. It’s the damned chair her husband's carving, she’s sure. Could it be just what it seems: a mundane piece of furniture? If so, why is it attracting dark forces—the forces she suspects drove Trevor’s siblings to insanity and suicide?

Armed with a handful of allies--a coven of helpful witches--she must proceed with caution against the hellish forces besieging her family. If she fails, she may lose forever the one thing she cares about most: her beloved Trevor.

House of Cards

Flesh Online Book Tour: Review of Flesh by Khan Ha

The setting is Tonkin (northern Vietnam) at the turn of the 20th century. A boy, Tai, witnesses the beheading of his father, a notorious bandit, and sets out to recover his head and then to find the man who betrayed his father to the authorities. On this quest, Tai's entire world will shift. FLESH takes the reader into dark and delightful places in the human condition, places where allies are not always your friends, true love hurts, and your worst enemy may bring you the most comfort. In that emotionally harrowing world, Tai must learn to deal with new responsibilities in his life while at the same time acknowledging his bond, and his resemblance, to a man he barely knew--his father. Through this story of revenge is woven another story, one of love, but love purchased with the blood of murders Tai commits. A coming-of-age story, but also a love story, the sensuality of the author's writing style belies the sometimes brutal world he depicts.

How long can you lie to yourself before it all comes apart?

In 2152 the avian race is on Earth looking for something stolen from them decades ago – their genetics. At the center of the search lies the Rural Republic; a small backwards farming country with high hopes of military domination and a penchant for illegal bioengineering.

19 year old Junco Coot is the daughter of the Rural Republic’s ranking commander. She’s the most foul-mouthed, wildly unpredictable and ruthless sniper the Rural Republic has ever trained. But when her father’s death sparks a trip into forbidden places, she triggers events that will change everything she knows to be true.

As an elite avian military officer, Tier’s mission is to destroy the bioengineering projects, kill Commander Coot’s daughter, and return home immediately. There’s just one problem. Junco isn’t who she claims to be.

With no one to trust, not even herself, Junco must confront the secrets of her past and accept her place in the future, or risk losing herself completely.

CONTENT WARNING The I Am Just Junco series is NOT YOUNG ADULT. This series contains foul language and graphic violence.

Recommended: You have to give it a chance. Good Science Fiction read!

Junco Coot is known as Rural Republic's greatest sniper in the year 2152. She may have had everything under control for so long but as of recently she has totally lost it. She’s not to blame after all. She has lived a life of being forced to assassinate many, many people in the coldest fashions. By now Junco has become undisturbed by killing for her human government. Human government have to say because in the world of I AM JUST JUNCO avians are a species that are winged humans seen as aliens. The government that she has listed to so far though has crossed a line she is set on making them pay. Unfortunately just as, she is setting out to do just that, Tier, an elite avian military officer, shows up professing the chance of a lifetime to tell Junco how deep the lies go told to her by the Rural Republic. Things definitely get dicey quick.

Clutch what really found refreshing from a lot of novels out in the world is that it has a healthy dose of foul-mouthing language from our main characters which mean Junco. Too many readers maybe as soon as mentioned this would be put off right about now but you shouldn't. The foul-mouthing is in good sync with who Junco is as a person so it almost becomes a trademark and source of humor. While Clutch happened to have moments of romance what found surprising was how well it was managed to an equal to its Science Fiction elements. Tier, the avian military officer, happens to be Junco's main love interest in Clutch and he sure can hold someone's attention. Something else to find in Clutch would be its action/suspense by that mean there are many matters of shooting and explosions. Its a book for that reason with a fast, fast pace. Clutch would be a book that recommend in so many ways for having to offer so much what with some of the best rogue characters that have ever come across and the fact that once your in the zone of reading it you''ll find you have no regrets over beginning the book.

J.A. Huss is building a far more different realm of Science Fiction Romance. A genuine book lover (me included) has to applaud this.
Overall: Amazing read!

Review of Angelkiller (Book I in The Angelkiller Triad Trilogy) by H. David Blalock

Why do bad things happen to good people? Simple. In the ancient war between the Angels of Light and Darkness, the Dark won. Now it is the job of an undercover force simply known as The Army to rectify that.

Using every tool available, The Army has worked to liberate our world from The Enemy for thousands of years, slowly and painfully lifting Mankind out of the dark. On the front of the great Conflict are the Angelkillers, veterans of the fight with centuries of experience.

Jonah Mason is an Angelkiller, and his cell is targeted as part of a plot to unseat a very powerful Minion of The Enemy. Mason and his troop are drawn into a battle that stretches from real-time to virtual reality and back. The Conflict is about to expand into cyberspace, and if Mason is unable to stop it, The Enemy will have gained dominion over yet another realm.
