I picked up The Accidental Genie by Dakota Cassidy not
expecting too much. Some laughs, a little entertainment and a light read.
Well, there
were many laughs, I was enthralled almost the entire time and although I read
quickly, there was a lot of substance to the story.
Ms. Cassidy certainly doesn’t pull her punches! The story
begins with a bang and keeps up the action all the way through.
If you’re
familiar with the authors work then you’ll recognise some reoccurring
characters. If you’re not, then it doesn’t matter, as the characters are so
developed you don’t need to know their precise story.
Jeannie is a
wonderful heroin who keeps her secrets close to her chest, and when she
delivers you’re blown away. She’s smart, funny and likeable. She’s real, has
insecurities and keeps a level head in dangerous situations.
Her romance is
fun to watch, as each of the characters’ develop and change as they learn more
about themselves and each other.
I warn you
though; this book is an emotional rollercoaster. It’s laugh out loud funny quickly followed by heartbreaking,
before moving right along into romantic.
I really
enjoyed this book, and I’d recommend it if you enjoy funny yet deep books. 3 ½
