Interview With Elyssa Patrick Author Of Four Weddings And A Breakup!

FOUR WEDDINGS AND A BREAK UP

Author: Elyssa Patrick
Release Date: May 12, 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Summary:
One fake relationship . . .
Ginny Michaels has always been a good girl and—ever since surviving a school shooting a little over a year ago—hailed a hero. Except she doesn’t feel like a hero. She can’t even have a one-night stand with sexy Wes Dalton properly. When her big city fling resurfaces in her hometown with an intriguing proposition, she’s powerless to resist. A fake relationship is exactly what’s needed to keep her small town’s matchmakers at bay during the upcoming wedding season. If only her attraction to Wes were as easy to ignore.
Too many real kisses . . . Wes Dalton doesn’t have many regrets, and that includes his night with Ginny. But he’s always hoped to strengthen his relationship with his estranged family. When his father’s health takes a bad turn, Wes puts his life on hold and moves to the meddling seaside town of Cape Hope. With his barriers in place—and a beautiful woman to help him hold them up—he’s prepared for anything. Or so he thinks. Despite his determination to leave as soon as the summer is over, those fake kisses are starting to feel an awful lot like the real thing.

I was lucky enough to get an interview with the lovely and funny Ms. Patrick, as well as an ARC of her book which I shall be reviewing shortly. Now, lets see what she has to say!

Book and Movie Dimension: Thanks so much for agreeing to be interviewed!Where did you get your ideas for Four Weddings and a Breakup? And why did you decide to write this particular book?

Elyssa Patrick: Thanks so much for having me on! I got the idea for Four Weddings and a Breakup when the first scene of the book popped into my head. The title came to me as I wrote the first chapter, and I knew the book would revolve around four weddings and a break up. I had to find out more about Ginny and Wes, aka Mr. Dangerous, and I really wanted to write it.

Book and Movie Dimension: They are very memorable characters! When did you realize that you wanted to be an author, and what was your first foray into writing?

Elyssa Patrick: It’s such a cliché, but I knew I wanted to write when I was really little. I always wrote stories and read a lot. I loved when my mom would take my siblings and I to the library and bookstore. I was shy (still am) and had a really bad speech impediment, which a lot of kids teased and bullied me about, so I found solace in different worlds these authors created. But being a published author seemed like a faraway dream, something that other people did.
My first “official” foray into writing when I entered the Avon Fanlit competition, which was about in 2006 or so. At the time, I was interested in writing historical romances. But the competition was really good in the sense because you were required to write so many words, have a little blurb, make a title, etc.

Book and Movie Dimension: I'm sure many aspiring writers will be inspired by your success. Now, for the question I've been dying to ask: have you ever been in a fake relationship?

Elyssa Patrick: If I had been, would I ever tell? ;) Book and Movie Dimension: Too true! Where is your favourite place to write? Elyssa Patrick: I usually write in the basement, because it’s free of distractions.

Book and Movie Dimension: basement - could be spooky! Are you the type of writer who plans every detail out before writing a book, or one who prefers to play it by ear?

Elyssa Patrick: I’m a pantser so I play it by ear.

Book and Movie Dimension: What’s your favourite thing about being an author?

Elyssa Patrick:So many things! I love writing—even when I struggle with a scene or particular point—but creating characters and worlds, and seeing them come to life on page is fun and rewarding. It’s even better when readers enjoy them, too.

Book and Movie Dimension: it does sound amazing. But how do you juggle family life and work?

Elyssa Patrick: I’m single so my family life is around my parents and siblings, and I work from home. But there are times when there seems to be a lot going on, and lots of juggling has to happen. Wine is always good for these occasions.

Book and Movie Dimension: Wine is good for many occasions.;)Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

Elyssa Patrick: Right now, I’m working on Go With Me, my second New Adult contemporary romance, which is set to release on July 1, 2014.

Book and Movie Dimension: great! I shall keep an eye out. As a reader, what are some of your favourite books?

Elyssa Patrick: As you can imagine I have so many favorite books. My all-time favorites include: Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, To Love a Thief by Julie Anne Long, Kiss an Angel and Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas, Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran, Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase, It Happened One Wedding by Julie James, The Chocolate Rose by Laura Florand, If I Stay by Tamara Morgan, and Simply Dangerous by Mary Balogh.

Book and Movie Dimension: yes, it can be hard to pick a fav. What are you most looking forward to in 2014?

Elyssa Patrick: I’m looking forward to books I got to read early to release: Tamara Morgan’s If I Stay, which also releases on May 12th, Laura Florand’s Sun-Kissed, and Nalini Singh’s Shield of Winter. All are spectacular reads! I’m also looking forward to Archangel’s Legion by Nalini Singh, Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Brown-Eyed Girl by Lisa Kleypas. I’m a huge fan of these authors.

Book and Movie Dimension: Me too! Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Elyssa Patrick: Read a lot. Write even more.

Book and Movie Dimension: If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?

Elyssa Patrick: Somewhere tropical and secluded, where I could enjoy the beach and quiet and write a lot.

Elyssa Patrick is a former high school English teacher who left the classroom to write contemporary romances and New Adult. She is currently hard at work on her next novel.
