Research for my book

A lot of people have asked me about the Wiccan base of my series. I didn't really have to research that area. I am Wiccan so it made it pretty easy. I simply write what I know. I wanted to write something that is based on actual facts. So many writers be it book or screen, make up all sorts of outlandish stuff. That's fine, they can go for it. I believe that fiction based on fact makes for a more interesting and believable story. When a story sparks a readers curiosity I think it's nice for them to be able to google it and see that it is in fact real.  I created the Vampire Mythology on my own though. I didn't use any of the outstanding myths in this story. I wanted to tie together the history of the vampires with the history of the witches.

Hi, guys. Thanks to the Book Tour an excerpt is going to be available to you too. Enjoy!

Betrayed Excerpt
When we arrived at the house we rushed inside, turned off all the lights, and lit candles. My father built a fire in the fireplace to provide extra light and locked all the windows and doors. I suppose in an offbeat way I was thankful for the cold front we’re having this week, otherwise I would be roasting right now. I sat in front of the fire while my dad and Sebastian gathered stuff and started packing it into bags.
I felt their apprehension, but I was still very confused. I wanted answers. I stood and started pacing the floor. My father reached for something next to me and I placed my hand on his arm to stay him and asked, "Why are you and Sebastian packing up everything?"
He brushed past me and continued packing as he spoke, "We don’t know how this will turn out, Alexis, and it’s best to be prepared."
That still wasn’t the answer I was looking for. "Did you tell Mom what’s happening?"
"I didn’t have a chance to. I called her earlier this evening to check up on your friend and I am glad I did. Those are very dangerous people." He pointed an accusing finger at me and continued, "Certainly not good company for you to keep."
My mouth gaped and I got defensive, "How was I supposed to know? You guys never told me anything. What is the deal with them anyway? I have known them all my life practically, and they don’t seem so bad."
My father hesitated, then sighed in resignation. "Sebastian, come in here. You need to hear this too." Sebastian and I gathered around the fireplace as my father told us his story, "I will make this short, as we do not have much time to spare. The history of the vampire goes back thousands of years. From what my family has told me, there were two sisters, Morrigan and Athene, and both were blood witches. They were two of the most powerful witches known to man, but Morrigan was not satisfied with her powers alone. She was determined to find the key to immortality no matter the cost. Morrigan disappeared and no one heard from her for many years. It is said that when she came back she still looked 30 years of age. Though Athene was four years younger than Morrigan, she looked much older. Morrigan was taken immediately to the elders of the coven and asked to tell them the secret of her youth. When she revealed to them that the key to immortality and eternal youth was the combination of her powers mixed with the lifeblood of humans she was cast out. Morrigan is my ancestor. Vampires are born, not created as they say in folk tales."
I gave my father a puzzled look. "So, vampires originated from witches? If that is true, why can you not cast spells?"
He sighed impatiently. "Because we are no longer witches. When Morrigan began murdering humans, she became something different entirely. It is said that she somehow made a pact with Hecate, and found allegiance with the Underworld. That is why vampires do have certain abilities, but we cannot work magick as you and your mother do. In order to work magick one must attune with nature, and we are not natural."
Sebastian frowned. "Okay, so why is her friend’s dad after us?"
"There have been hunters almost as long as there have been vampires. Rodney Phelps comes from a long line of hunters. That family has a personal vendetta with the Talbots. His great great-grandmother Felicia was forced to marry his great great grandfather Joseph Phelps. She did not want to marry Joseph because her heart belonged to my father. Felicia and my father would meet in secret and did so for many years. Eventually Joseph got word of their secret rendezvous and went after my father. Joseph burst into my father’s house unannounced and was beheaded. Ever since that day the Phelps family has been seeking their own form of justice. Of course, it didn’t help that in letting his anger get the better of him, your grandfather put Joseph’s head on a stake in the town square for all to see. My family has always been known for being quite ostentatious and egotistical; your grandpa Gio is no different. We consider ourselves a peaceful coven; we do not go in search of trouble. However, when it arrives, and it does, we handle it swiftly and with a vengeance."
Just as he finished his story I heard a car door shut outside, followed by pounding on the front door. Sebastian huddled over me under the staircase in the living room while my father gathered up the bags.
"I know you’re in there! If you don’t come out I’m going to burn this place to the ground!" Rodney Phelps shouted, jiggling the door handle and pounding on the door and windows. He peeked through the blinds, attempting to see whatever he could. "Don’t try to escape; I’ve poured gasoline around your house. Time to finish , you blood sucking murderers! There’s no way out!"
