Dontchathink people are simple?
I mean, have you seen TV
where people seem easy to please,
a little too perfect
with their white teeth, clean hair
and high-end designer clothing?
Maybe it’s a ‘me’ thing,
an ego trip like a flicked switch
in the darkness;
all I know is
my life is not the life
they’re living.
My life isn’t complicated;
I wake up and work
and try not to live a lie
in silence.
Still,
silence is golden,
and I’m holding on
for a silent,
some sort of euphoria
you can drink like water
and absorb it.
This isn’t profound
or high-brow;
this is lowest common denominator
like the way your friends hold you
as you soldier on.
This is a silent song
about the meds that I’m on.
