Author Interview
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Tracy tells us about your current books? What genre?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): The Leah Ryan Series, Repo Chick Blues, Finding Chloe and Dirty Business, are romantic mystery/thrillers. Repo Chick Blues and Finding Chloe were released within a month of each other, July 5th and Aug 5th. Dirty Business will be released August 31st. The series features former car thief turned repo agent/private investigator Leah Ryan and her partner Jackson Quick.
I also just released a supernatural horror novella, Camilla, under the name T.J Element. The different name is because of the difference in genre. That one is a ghost story.
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: What is something readers will like about them?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): I can tell you that readers have said they liked the Leah books because they are jam packed with action and suspense. They are sexy, too, and Leah is a spunky, strong, smart-mouthed woman with a fun sense of humor.
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Repo Chick Blues(The Leah Ryan Mysteries) is a series, right? So if it's how many books do you know are in the works?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Yes. I'm working on a Young Adult paranormal right now, and then maybe book four of the Leah series. Dirty Business is slated for release next Wed. Aug 31st.
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: As an author, how did you get where you are?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Writing amost every spare minute I have. I've been known to write in parking lots early in the morning because I have a day job and a three and a half year old son :) I also study the craft. I'm obsessed with how to make the writing better. What works and what doesn't. Technique, character, structure, setting, and a lot of other things that don't sound exciting but make a big difference. The trick is to make it look easy. You can do that when you have an idea of how the various elements of crafting a story work. I'm still trying ;)
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Tell us about your favorite books and authors?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Dennis Lehane, T. Jefferson Parker, Val McDermid, Lilith Saintcrow, Joe Konrath. There is a huge list, but those writers are at the top of it.
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Any other interests you have besides the great art of writing?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Reading, of course! I love watching movies, too. Taking pictures is another, but I really don't know what I'm doing. I snap a shot and if it looks cool I keep it ;)
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Tell readers readers a word of advice on writing?
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Alexandra Sokoloff's blog has excellent tips and tricks for learning the craft of writing. If you want to become a good writer, go to her blog and start reading. She is brilliant.
Write as much as you can, and try to finish every project. There will be times were you abandon something because the chemistry just isn't there and never will be. Start something else. With each writing project you become better. Like with anything else, you need to practice to become good at something.
Also, write it from the heart. Write about something that sets a fire under your butt. You'll be more likely to stay with it. Writing isn't something you go into because you think you'll make a ton of cash at it. The competition is ferocious, so if you're going to do it, do it well and be serious about it. Readers are smart. They know the real thing when they read it, and they know when you're handing them something that isn't.
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Thanks Tracy for the author interview. Keep on writing.
Tracy Sharp (The Author): Thank you!
The Book & Movie Dimension Blogger: Of course, Tracy.
